JEDDAH: Three cleaners have been arrested for stealing the spare parts of an aircraft engine from a workshop in Jeddah’s King Abdul Aziz International Airport yesterday, said Misfar Al-Joaed, spokesman for Jeddah police.

Airport security caught the Asian workers trying to smuggle engine parts from the workshop in a large garbage bin. Guards became suspicious after the Asian workers spent a longer than usual time at the workshop. On checking the bin, the guards found the spare parts concealed under trash.

Police are investigating the group’s previous activities and ascertaining whether they had any accomplices from outside. The official noted that this was the first time cleaners had been involved in stealing spare aircraft engine parts.
