RIYADH: Talk about the worst possible day to be late for work. According to a report on Sunday in Shams daily, a Saudi Arabian Airlines pilot arrived late for his Riyadh-to-Jeddah flight recently, and one of the inconvenienced passengers on the flight turned out to be none other than Saudia Director General Khalid Abdullah Almolhem. When passengers realized that the head of the airline was on board, they asked him if there was something he could do to get the flight in the air as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Almolhem’s hands were tied since, he said, he was just another passenger. The pilot’s late arrival led to an hour’s delay on the tarmac of King Khalid International Airport, much to the chagrin of those on board. “We wonder why there are no substitute pilots in the company for situations like this,” Nawaf Al-Otaiby, a passenger, was quoted as saying by the newspaper. No word yet on whether the boss dressed down the pilot for his tardiness. |
