PORTAGE, Michigan: The Harlem Globetrotters say they hope that deprived NHL fans have taken some comfort in watching basketball on ice.
The sporty entertainers strapped on custom cleats and hockey helmets for their basketball game on ice Monday in West Michigan. Dozens of fans braved the blustery winds as they watched the Globetrotters beat Global select 24-10 at Millennium Park in Portage.
The Globetrotters play on a conventional court Tuesday at Wings Stadium in nearby Kalamazoo.
Detroit Red Wings alumnus Kevin Miller joined the Globetrotters, dribbling the ball with his hockey stick as he skated down the ice. He also blocked a shot with the stick above the rim.
The NHL Players Association and the league have reached a tentative settlement to end the lockout.
