Huge rock damages car

MAKKAH: An Egyptian motorist narrowly escaped death when a huge falling rock hit his car at a mountain road in Makkah at 10 a..m on Saturday.

Maj. Fawzi Al-Ansari, spokesman for Makkah Traffic Police, said the incident happened on the Taif-Makkah Road in the south of the Al-Aziziya district.

“On impact, the man lost control of his car, which flipped and landed upside down. The rock fell in the middle of the road and blocked traffic from moving,” said Al-Ansari.

He added that the Civil Defense and the Makkah Municipality were called to help clear the road. “The driver was taken to Al-Noor Hospital and released the same day after receiving minor treatment,” he said.

According to a Civil Defense official, construction workers on a nearby mountain dislodged the rock. Police and Civil Defense officials are still investigating the accident.
