The Ministry of Health (MoH) said Monday that a man has died of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-coronavirus.
The Health Ministry said the latest victim was a chronically ill 86-year-old Saudi man who died in Riyadh on Sunday. The latest death brought to 64 the number of people who have died of MERS-coronavirus in the Kingdom, which is at the center of the outbreak of the new virus that is related to SARS.
The MoH statement also said that five new cases of the virus have tested positive, bringing to 162 the number of people infected in the kingdom since September 2012.
The new virus belongs to a family of viruses that most often causes the common cold.
