Saudi’s King Salman congratulates German Chancellor on election win

DUBAI: King Salman has sent a cable of congratulations to German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel following her re-election the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Chancellor Merkel won a fourth term, in Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

Merkel has said she will talk with all mainstream parties about trying to form a “good, stable” government after Germany’s watershed election, and vowed to try to win back voters who supported an upstart nationalist force.

Sunday’s election saw the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party poach 1 million votes from Merkel’s conservatives, leaving her without an obvious coalition to lead Europe’s largest economy.

Head of Saudi entertainment authority relieved of position

JEDDAH: Ahmad Al-Khatib, the chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority has been removed from his position.

Al-Khatib was appointed to the position in 2016, and had previously been minister of the health. He also served as an adviser to the royal court.

The General Entertainment Authority was established to organize, develop, and lead the entertainment sector to provide exciting entertainment options, and tailored experiences to the needs of people from all walks of life around Saudi Arabia.

Al-Khatib was appointed as chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) in October 2017.
