Dar Al-Hekma University Model UN empowers youths

The four-day long DAHMUN hosted 280 young female students from across the university.
The 8th Model United Nations (MUN) conference organized by Dar Al-Hekma University (DAHMUN) concluded on Wednesday. The theme of the event was “Beyond the havoc: Building a haven.”
The four-day long DAHMUN hosted 280 young female students from across the university who participated as role-play diplomats for member states of the UN in separate committees. The ceremony was inaugurated by chief guest Askar Mussinov, director of peace, security and mediation and conflict resolution unit at the OIC, in the presence of Sanaa Askool, dean of students, Chaman Rahim, adviser and founder, DAHMUN, and Aamna Ali, secretary general, DAHMUN.
The various committees that shed light on major issues included United Nations Institute for Disarmaments Research (UNIDIR), Security Council, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Historical Cabinet, Human Rights Council (HRC) and Poverty.
DAHMUN, the first MUN club in Saudi Arabia, has been arranging the conference since 2007 and now has over 150 members. It works for the development of intellectual as well as organizational capacity of the youth by promoting MUN conferences as a platform for diplomatic practice among the youth.
With a call to spread the message of peace and prosperity, the four-day DAHMUN conference ended with the delegates from the university preparing resolutions on the global potentials and challenges in achieving millennium development goals, security and economic growth. The final segment, an award ceremony, took place where teams comprising students of the university were awarded for excellence in different categories.
