The vast desert wilderness and breathtaking archaeological wonders of Jordan are popular film locations and have been spotted in numerous Hollywood blockbusters.
The Six: Shot in Jordan
The soon-to-be-released live-action remake of this 1992 Disney classic featured Wadi Rum in scenes with actors Mena Massoud and Will Smith, who play Aladdin and Genie respectively.
It’s fitting that this iconic treasure hunter, played by Harrison Ford, traverses the archaeological city of Petra, as seen in 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
Filmed almost entirely in Wadi Rum, this 2015 movie starring Matt Damon portrayed the stunning landscape of the desert destination as the surface of Mars.
The second installment in the robot fantasy series released in 2009, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” featured both Wadi Rum and Petra.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” released in 2017, also used Wadi Rum prominently. It depicted the desert as Jedha, a moon that is sought out by pilgrims from across the galaxy who seek spiritual guidance.
‘Zero Dark Thirty’
Dramatizing the manhunt for Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, director Kathryn Bigelow’s 2012 thriller was partly shot in Amman, portrayed as Islamabad in the movie.
