RIYADH, 18 August — Saudi Arabia has banned import of all types of firecrackers to prevent the dangers caused by them, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. It said Interior Minister Prince Naif has already approved a proposal made by a special committee set up to study the use of firecrackers by children.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The committee recommended that the import of firecrackers through the Kingdom’s entry points be prevented. The Commerce Ministry has distributed a circular to all chambers of commerce to stop the import of firecrackers.
Those who violate the rule will be given deterrent punishment, the paper said.
