DAMMAM, 15 May 2003 — Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd, Governor of the Eastern Province, has condemned the attacks on housing compounds in Riyadh in which 34 people were killed and scores injured.
The prince was speaking at the Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd Award for Charity Services here yesterday. He said such criminal acts did not conform to Islamic teachings, which put greater emphasis on human values and gave greater importance to human lives. “What happened in the capital will be condemned by all Saudis, who are shocked and terrified by this awful act,” he added.
During the ceremony Prince Muhammad presented awards to eighteen businessmen who have supported and funded various charities.
He said that since its founding, Saudi Arabia had been in the forefront of charitable endeavors and would continue to be so.
Dr.. Salih ibn Homaid, President of Al-Shura Council, said that the terror attacks on Monday night were unjustifiable and rejected by the Holy Qur’an and all Islamic institutions. He thanked Prince Muhammad for supporting the cause of charity.
Abdullah Fouad, a prominent businessman and a winner of the Prince Muhammad Award, emphasized the need to support charity.
“If God gives to you, then you should help others by reducing poverty and hardship as much as you can,” he said.
