ABHA, 15 October 2005 — Fate rings in changes in strange ways, and a 39-year-old Saudi found out what fortune held for him with a ring of a phone. The Saudi, who earned just SR3,000 and supported an extended family that included his mother, five brothers, wife and kids, was hesitant when he received a phone call from a local bank asking him to pay them a visit. The bank asked him to bring his identification papers as the matter related to his father’s account, Al-Watan reported. The man’s father had recently died. Thinking that the bank had called him to settle the debt left by his father, the Saudi had already thought out what he would be saying in the event the bank pressed for payment. He would present his plight to the bank while expressing his inability to pay the debts, if such was the case. But what he got was a pleasant surprise. When he went to the bank, officials told him that he had inherited SR6 million from his father. The man was shocked because his father had never let on that he was sitting on a veritable treasure, and he left the bank saying “thanks a million”. He and his family are now enjoying happier days in their new house.
