JEDDAH, 21 February 2006 — Hamza Idrees fired the game-winner at the last moment to save Al-Ittihad from a potentially embarrassing draw against Al-Taie during their Saudi Soccer League match last night in Hail.

The 4-3 victory ended a run of loss of points for Ittihad who prior to the Taie match gained only six out of a possible 15 points from one win, one loss and three draws in five matches.

Ittihad’s form was a far cry from the one the team enjoyed during the World Clubs Championship in Tokyo last December. They struggled against Taie but then managed to secure the full three points. With 26 points from 13 matches, Ittihadh are four matches behind Al-Ahli who are in third place with 28 points from 17 matches.

Ittihad scored the first goal by Tago in the 19th minute. Muhammad Al-Aroosi equalized for Taie in the 26th minute before Saad Al-Aboud took the lead for Ittihad 2-1 in the 35th minute with the second goal ending the first half.

Taie put parity back in the match in the 75th minute on a goal by Al-Aroosi who then completed his hat trick of goals with another strike in the 79th minute. Tago equalized for Ittihad in the 87th minute for Ittihad.

With hopes of victory fading fast, Idrees came along and scored the winner for Ittihad in the waning seconds to save Ittihad from an embarrassing draw. Taie are currently in ninth position with 18 points.
