JEDDAH, 15 December 2006 — Al-Hilal finished top of the Saudi League first round with 30 points after defeating Al-Shabab 4-0 at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd stadium in Riyadh yesterday.
The match was totally one sided in favor of Hilal who managed to take control for the most part of the action.
Muhammad Al-Shalhoub, Yasir Al-Qahtani and Tareq Al-Tayeb were the stars of the match. Al-Shalhoub opened the scoring in the seventh minute, followed by Al-Qahtani in the 33rd minute to end the first half 2-0 for Hilal.
Tareq Al-Tayeb struck the third goal for Hilal in the 70th minute to take the fight out of Shabab who saw no hope of coming back to the game or at least scoring one goal.
Al-Shalhoub put the last nail in Shabab’s coffin with a spectacular execution of a free kick that hit the left hand side of the goalie. Despite a good effort from the Shabab goalie to block the attempt the ball went inside.
Shabab dropped to third place with Wehda moving up to second on goal difference although both teams have 22 points.
In Dammam Al- Ahli drew 1-1 with Khaleej and deprived of two valuable points that would have strengthened Ahli’s position in the standings. Mutaz Al-Mousa scored for Ahli in the 52nd minute of the second half. Khaleej were quick to equalize in the 58th minute. With this result, Ahli remained sixth place with 15 points.
In Al-Rass, Qadesiya defeated Al-Hazem 3-2 and Taie in Dammam stopped Al-Ittifaq from winning and forced a 2-2 draw.
