Ban on export of sand and gravel

RIYADH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has banned exports of sand and gravel from the country for ecological reasons, Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi ordered all private and public sector agencies to terminate their export contracts within a month. The order follows the publication of a report by the ministry’s experts and geologists on the negative ecological effects a massive removal of sand and gravel can cause.
