The armored truck was traveling on an autobahn (highway) near the Bavarian spa town of Bad Kissingen Monday when the three cash-filled safety deposit boxes tumbled out of a door that had not been shut properly, witnesses told police. A military vehicle then swooped in picking up the boxes, witnesses said. The 41-year-old soldier at the wheel did not return the cash until Wednesday, following two days of local media reports about the dragnet search for the cash. Prosecutors are investigating whether to bring charges of attempted embezzlement against the soldier.
