Editorial: US and the lobby

THE truth that sets men free is the truth men prefer not to hear.

The storm of protests that has greeted EU Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht’s innocuous remarks on Middle East talks and the Israeli lobby must have come as a shock to him. But those familiar with the overarching clout of the Jewish lobby in the United States and Europe would hardly be surprised by the overwhelming reaction to de Gucht’s comments.

Today, just as it’s not possible for anyone in the West to debate the Holocaust facts and fiction, talking about the stranglehold of the all-powerful Jewish lobby over America has become a taboo. All de Gucht had done was that in an interview to Belgian radio, he talked about the unhealthy influence of the Jewish lobby on US politics and how it has historically undermined the peace process. The swift and furious response to his remarks has now forced the former Belgian foreign minister to offer an abject apology.  In a separate statement, the European Union has also apologized, distancing itself from de Gucht’s “faux pas.” Which ironically only goes to prove the Belgian politician’s suggestion in the first place. Indeed, the whole episode is a tribute to the awesome power of the lobby and how it controls, manipulates, bullies and dictates global agenda.

The US, as the sole superpower and hegemon, may rule the world, but some of its actions and policies give the impression that it is in turn controlled and manipulated by the Israeli lobby.

What was once dismissed as the figment of imagination of some nutty conspiracy theorists is now being recognized by some independent observers and analysts — of course at great risk to their professional reputation and career prospects.  Thanks to globalization and the power of the Internet that have brought the endless trauma of Palestinians into the homes of hundreds of millions of people across the globe, the world is waking up at last to this long-festering conflict and how Israel fuels it with the help of its powerful protectors in the West.

“The Israel Lobby and the US Foreign Policy” by Prof. John Mearsheimer and Prof. Stephen Walt, two of America’s most respected and brilliant minds, that came out in 2007 is by far the first objective and courageous attempt yet to confront this state-within-state or, should we say, superstate.

The Zionist lobby has not just blindly protected Israel egging it to endlessly spar with its Arab neighbors and steal their territory, it has used its pernicious influence over the Capitol Hill, military establishment, media and its deep pockets to derail all attempts to find peace in the Middle East. The Palestinians have been made prisoners in their own land and for seven decades subjected to some of the gravest crimes in history while the world community looks the other way.

More important, many see the hand of the Jewish lobby in putting the US on a perpetual collision course with the Muslim world, successfully employing the deadly firepower of the world’s most powerful army to take out one Muslim country after another. So if the US is loathed across the Muslim lands today and our world finds itself on the brink, you know where the blame lies. Will this state of affairs ever change and is there any hope for our world? Signs are not good if what happened to Karel de Gucht is any indication.

and still we believe that peace talks will get us peace ,we are on a brink of a war ,looks like war is the only way to peace.we the Muslims are hypocrites we proclaim that we follow quran and still accept oppression by US (Zionists). It is high time that we understand that united we stand and separated we fall.i think our leaders have let us down .if we close our eyes to the killing of over one million Muslims in iraq the day will soon come that we will face the same end, Muslim ummah stand up and fight so that your generations will live in peace.peace will never come to you if you accept oppression.

Assalaaualaikum

Despite its all powerful influence on western countries the international Zionist lobby is facing a bleak future.

The deep recession affecting these countries is a sign that the centre of gravity is moving away from the European diaspora. Anyone who fails to recognize that does so at his/her own peril. The future lies in Asia for the short term with China and India being the vanguard of that movement. In turn, they will be succeeded by other Asian powers, including Iran and Turkey. The world better be ready for that.

Another region is South America and eventually Africa. These resource laden continents are the giants waiting to surge, given the right leadership.

Coming back to Israel and the Jewish lobby, their reign of terror is entering its final phase. Within one decade the whole system will unravel by the will of Allah.

I am an American Jew.This kind of grossly distorted reporting, designed or unintended, fans the flames of hatred and makes peace far more difficult. Report what de Gucht’s remarks actually were. When he remarked about a Jewish gene and how we Jews always think we're always right that was not innocuous, unless you feel the Nazi racial theories were innocuous. They had no respect for the Arab people either. How would Arab's feel if someone in an official capacity of the EU said that there is an Arab gene that makes all Arabs always think they are right. I would object to such a thing as racist regardless of what people it was said about. If there is to be an end to the bloodshed then this kind of thing must stop, and I hope you can see that: this truth will set men free from hatred and is the truth men prefer to hear.

Two well known Professors from Harvard and Unv of Chicago have published their Research documenting the power Israeli Lobbies have in USA and much of the West! Insulting Islam and other religions is allowed as Freedom of Speech and Thought. But one cannot quetion Israeli control over US Congress and the Media.President Obama is already under attack for trying to be Fair to both sides.US Congress has often be called "Israeli Occupied Territory"! And it is so!

imam Faisal Abdul Rauf is "pulling the US on a perpetual collision course with the Muslim world." While arousing the ire of 70% of the American people with the inappropriate location for his proposed mosque, the imam says he wants to "build bridges." Who would believe that? After 9/11 there was less anti-Muslim sentiment than I see now. I hope nobody makes the mistake of putting $100 million into the hands of the Ground Zero Imam
