By FRANCIS A. ANDREW, NIZWA (OMAN)

Where is the proof?

In his letter, “Reversal of roles” (July 30), Chirantan Chakrabarti claims that British Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to India proves that Britain needs India rather than vice versa.

Chakrabarti gives no examples to prove his ludicrous thesis. Would he tell us exactly what Britain gains from India?

If Britain is a “decaying economic power” then why is it that so many Indians are desperate to find work in Britain? Like so many Third World people, they come to Britain knowing the economic and welfare benefits provided by the state.

Mr Andrew, I can imagine that it would be hard for you to come to terms with, but Britian is in economic dire straits and India's economy is growing! Britian needs India more than India needs Britian at this juncture!

Mr. Andrew is either failing or ignoring to read the writing on the wall. The economic centre of gravity is shifting to emerging economic powers like China,India,South Korea,Brazil etc.Britain's economy may not be in a state of total collapse like Greece,Portugal etc. but it certainly is in dire straits and what is worse,Britain's economic decline seems to be irreversible and perhaps Britain will never be able to climb up the economic success ladder again in near future. There is hardly any new employment generation in Britain, particularly in the hi-tech sectors like Information technology, communication etc.(where Britain is much behind countries like China,India,South Korea etc.).All new employment creations are shifting to these emerging economies and in coming 10 -15 years about 60% new employments will be generated in the emerging economies whereas countries like Britain will be burdened with more and more unemployment.

Andrew Francis needs to understand and accept that the once Great Britain is now just at the end of the cliff and needs only a tiny little push from the US to fall to the ground. Until the US does that, UK is desp trying to get support from the emerging power viz., INDIA. On the account of Indians working in UK, we aren't just working there, we also employ thousands of your own under-qualified personnel in your own country. Some day you might see an Indian citizen as UK PM...wait and watch.

What proof is required Mr.Andrew? Indians are going to Britain as they are called there for their capability, sincereity and hard work which is lacking in Britishers. Why are there so less Britishers in India? Because they are not needed here due to their lack of knowledge, incapability and assumed superiority. So, here lies the proof you were asking for!
