JEDDAH, 4 April - Majlis-e-Ilmo Adab Jeddah Chapter organized a Mushaira (poetry session) here recently. The evening was attended by a large number of local Urdu poets and was presided over by Professor Muhammad Abdul Wahab alias ‘Jazb Aurangabadi.’<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The seating was organized in the honor of Professor Wahab, a professor of English literature at the Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Wahab is also a Urdu poet and a columnist in leading English newspapers. He has penned many literary articles and has presented papers in the seminars of Arab World League.
On the occasion, the host of the evening, Syed Faizan Ahmad, announced that the forum will provide a platform to budding Urdu poets, writers and scholars. The forum was applauded by the audience for starting the program as per the schedule which provided ample time for the Mushaira.
One of the remarkable features of the evening was that the poets and audience both were fresh and enthusiastic. Every poet was appreciated by the audience. Earlier, the session started with the recitation of the Holy Qur?an by Dilshad Ahmad Nadwi. The program was conducted by poet and writer Naseem-e-Sehar.
Muhammad Mukhtar Ali presented ‘Naat.’ Muhammad Mujahid Syed introduced Wahab to the audience. He also highlighted Wahab?s services for English and Urdu literature. In his address Wahab shed some light on the history of Urdu poetry in Deccan (south India). He also said that it is very encouraging that Muslim youths were showing keen interest in journalism that is why a good number of them can be seen in leading newspapers. He praised Urdu poets and writers of different nationalities living in Jeddah for their unity and sincerity for the cause of Urdu.
