1.1m eligible to vote in civic poll

JEDDAH: There are over 1.1 million voters eligible for the municipal elections because this number includes those who had registered for the previous two polls.
Hamad bin Saad Al-Omar, a member of the election’s executive committee and media team head, said that only people who had changed their residential address should reregister.
He said citizens have until Sept. 14 to register for the Dec. 12 polls. “Everybody should take the initiative to play a positive role in choosing the best and most qualified people for these public posts. This is the best way to improve service provision at municipalities.”
The election rules state that citizens are eligible to vote if they are over 18. They can only vote in the constituencies where they live, and not be involved in military service.

Saudi Security Aviation Command evacuates family trapped due to storm

JEDDAH: The Saudi General Security Aviation Command continues its work in rescuing, evacuating and providing food aid to the Yemeni victims of tropical storm Luban, which had hit the eastern Al-Mahra governorate.
The command said that on Saturday an evacuation task had been carried out to save a family of seven members that were trapped in Al-Ghaydah, the capital city of Mahra.
They were transported to an area 80 kilometers east of Al-Ghaydah, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The command also carried more aid tasks by transporting tents and distributing more than 1,800 kilograms of food aid to the areas 180 km north of Al-Ghaydah.
Two members of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) were on board the relief flights.
