1.1m eligible to vote in civic poll

JEDDAH: There are over 1.1 million voters eligible for the municipal elections because this number includes those who had registered for the previous two polls.
Hamad bin Saad Al-Omar, a member of the election’s executive committee and media team head, said that only people who had changed their residential address should reregister.
He said citizens have until Sept. 14 to register for the Dec. 12 polls. “Everybody should take the initiative to play a positive role in choosing the best and most qualified people for these public posts. This is the best way to improve service provision at municipalities.”
The election rules state that citizens are eligible to vote if they are over 18. They can only vote in the constituencies where they live, and not be involved in military service.
