54 percent of Saudis have high cholesterol

By WALAA HAWARI | ARAB NEWS

RIYADH: Obesity, smoking, junk food and lazy lifestyles are behind the growing instances of heart diseases in the Kingdom, said Dr. Hani Najm, president of the Saudi Heart Association.

Speaking at the opening of the 22nd Saudi Heart Association Conference at the InterContinental Hotel in Riyadh on Monday, Najm said 20 percent of deaths across the world are because of heart problems.
He added that according to a study launched by the association, one in every two people in the Gulf region suffer from high cholesterol, which is one of the main causes of heart problems.
Over 3,000 experts in various heart-related specialties are participating in the conference -- titled “Your Heart Your Life.” Najd said the SHA has formed a number of committees to ensure the event’s success.
Waleed Abu Khodair, head of the scientific committee, said the conference provides a chance to review all new findings in the field. He added that the conference’s main goal is to encourage scientific research.
“The Saudi Heart Association is building strong relations with nominated international scientific associations to enable a continuity in presenting new and advanced findings in the field,” he said.
The conference will end on Thursday.

On this above issue I would like to add a few comments:

* BAN CIGARETTES and SHISHA.
* Cut down the FAST FOOD joints
* Make Compulsory 'GYM' and 'EXERCISE' Facilities in all Goverment and private sector, so in little spare time Employee don't just waste his time in Smoking or chatting. he will go and do some 10 to 15 minutes exercise.

Giving figures and percentage of the total ratio is not a solution. I would like to say that big people like Mr. Waleed Abu Khodair and Dr. Hani Najm should find the solution which helps the Saudis and also non-Saudis. Its time to take can action, because from bad it will get to worse...

Now that comes as a surprise! Just walk into any shopping mall, and go and look at the food courts - and take careful note of all the healthy options on offer there..

I think this stems from non beeing aware of the reason. MOH should launch a PR campaign in the media for telling people how to eat healthy.

Awareness about the subject is first level of wisdom .Organizations , Govt and Individuals who try there level best to highlight the cause , effect and precautions about this deadly disease are doing noble job.
We must know that all our products and services are backed by human effort. We all get effected if half of our people are sick with this disease. It is real alarming and we should take it serious.
