JEDDAH: The anti-forgery division of the Passport Department has been ordered by a judge to vacate its offices in Riyadh because it refused to accept an increase in rent, court sources have said.
The Directorate General of Passports was paying SR320,000 per year, but the landlord increased the rent when renewing a five-year contract.
“The directorate declined either to increase the rent or to evacuate the building and asked the landlord to renew the contract with them at the old rate,” a source said.
The landlord then filed a lawsuit. “After a number of sessions, the administrative court ordered the Directorate General of Passports to leave the building immediately,” the source said, adding that the ruling was upheld in the appeals process.
