JEDDAH: The Directorate of Education in Jeddah has denied recent media reports that one of its officials was summoned by a Jeddah court to testify in the case of a principal who is alleged to have beaten up a student.
“Media reports are exaggerating that the court asked the Directorate of Education to issue a report on the complaint filed by a parent that his son was beaten up by the principal of a local school,” said Rajaallah Al-Sulami, spokesman for the Directorate of Education in Jeddah.
“Some newspapers played up the incident and reported that the director of education in Jeddah, Abdullah Al-Thaqfi, was ordered by the court to go and testify,” he added.
Al-Sulami said that the parent had filed a complaint with the directorate prior to filing a lawsuit.
"Immediately, on receiving the complaint, the directorate ordered three investigations into the matter. The directorate's Follow-Up Department, Department for Complaints Against Teachers and Legal Affairs Department, conducted separate investigations and submitted their findings," he said. "All of the three departments reported that they did not find any evidence to prove that the school principal was involved in a beating," he added.
Unsatisfied with the investigations, the father then filed a lawsuit. He also denied allegations that some teachers were using corporal punishment to discipline children.
