JEDDAH: The Consulate General of Sudan in Jeddah intends to rebuild its old building in the south of Jeddah. The building is one of the historical structures in the city.

“We are working to maintain our old headquarters. This building is owned by the Sudanese government. We are planning to move to another building in the Al-Hamra district and set up the permanent headquarters there,” Sudanese Consul General Khaled Mahmoud told Arab News.

According to Sudanese residents in Jeddah, the consulate is a historical building and among the first with multiple floors in the city.

“There is no Sudanese resident who can forget this building. I think the Sudanese government should be more interested in maintaining this building, which introduced many Sudanese activities in the Kingdom,” Sudanese resident Ismaeel Fatah Allah said.

“It is a good decision, as the Sudanese government has to maintain it. I think the building needs to develop as a center of the Sudanese community in Jeddah.”

“The old building is around 40 years old. Faddel Obaid, the second Sudanese ambassador in the Kingdom, was the first who contributed to and managed to build the old Sudanese consulate in Jeddah, due to the large Sudanese community in the city,” Sudanese community leader in Jeddah Awed Qarshom told Arab News.
