RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal appointed journalist Jamal Khashoggi to head a new news channel that is scheduled to be launched in the near future and is owned by Alwaleed.

The prince confirmed that the channel will be independent from Rotana Holding and will focus on development in the Kingdom and Arab world on the political, economic and social fronts.

The channel will run 24 hours with reporters from the Arab world broadcasting from different bureaus to cover news from the region and the world. It will also highlight the talents of young people in various fields.

“We no longer have a void in the Arab world as it is now heavily occupied, therefore the new news channel is going to become an addition and an alternative for viewers. Our personal aim is to achieve this,” said Alwaleed.

The exclusive and modern news channel will be one of the largest locally and regionally. It will have a specialist team to cater to different viewing needs.

Khashoggi is the former editor in chief of Alwatan newspaper, media adviser to Prince Turki Al-Faisal at Saudi embassies in London and Washington D.C., and has been known as a correspondent and writer since graduating from the University of the State of Indiana in 1982. Prince Alwaleed has a strong presence and influence in media through his investments in media and entertainment in the Arab world and beyond like the Saudi Research and Marketing Group, News Corporation and Rotana Holding, which is chaired by Prince Alwaleed.

This night, I will ask God in prayer to select his news team for him, and for this to be a great success, as always. I am sure that God's seal will also be on this initiative. All my best

'Great', fox news coming to the Arabian peninsula. I hope they don't have Rush Limbaugh and his ilk at the new station. Murdoch has completely destroyed the concept of reporting news.

I shall stick with my profound like of traditional and balanced media, reading ArabNews for instance.

It is important that the truth gets out. We need more independent Arab news channels. Think about it, when the dajjal comes into power, he will deceive most of the world. There must be voices who refuse to go along with their evil network taskmasters in furthering the agenda of the axis of evil which will be worldwide. The media has to cover all of this.
