JEDDAH: The soft launch of the Saher Traffic Monitoring System will start in Makkah, Madinah and Jeddah on Sunday to test the system before it begins ticketing drivers in earnest.

Once in effect, drivers will be required to update their personal information if they expect to be informed of the infraction shortly after it occurs.

The fine doubles 30 days after the infraction is registered.

“The traffic departments in the three cities are fully equipped to implement the Saher system,” said said Director General of Traffic Administration Maj. Gen. Suleiman Al-Ajlan in a press meeting after a visit to the center at the headquarters of the Traffic Administration in Jeddah on Saturday.

The Saher is aimed at reducing the number of accidents, organizing the smooth movement of traffic and facilitating the implementation of traffic laws through automated ticketing of infractions at key intersections.

Drivers are advised to ensure their contact information is accurate, or to provide accurate contact information by going to the Traffic Department, Department of Civil Affairs or the Passport Department.

Drivers can also update their information by SMS for a SR2.5 fee. Instructions on how to register and how to check for infractions are available in English or Arabic online at saher.gov.sa.

Drivers that do not ensure they are notified or do not check for infractions may discover fines when they go to renew their licenses or attempt to leave the country.

The highways in Dammam are one of the most in the whole KSA. Why isn't anyone implementing the Saher over here? Why are they delaying the whole process?

They should have done this a long time ago, however, this will not discipline the drivers. They should change the system of their driving schools 1st.
