JEDDAH: The International Islamic Relief Organization-Saudi Arabia (IIROSA) made a remarkable achievement by obtaining membership in the United Nation’s Department of Public Information (DPI).
The subcommittee on non-governmental organizations of the DPI met on June 30 to consider new applications from NGOs for association with DPI and approved the application of IIROSA.
Under this membership, the IIROSA will be listed in the DPI’s directory of NGOs and will start receiving data on relevant UN materials and information about conferences, seminars, briefings and other events and activities.
IIROSA Secretary General Adnan Khalil Basha expressed happiness over this development after intensive efforts with a number of NGOs who are members of the DPI.
“This is a recognition of the significance of IIROSA and its role in supporting relief humanitarian work for the welfare of humans everywhere in the world regardless of race, color or creed that are in line with UN objectives and activities,” he said.
Basha said the achievements realized by the organization since its inception would not have been possible had it not been for the Grace of Allah and the strong and generous support of the Saudi government and the Saudi people.
He particularly praised Saudi philanthropists and said they have been extending all out support to all the programs and initiatives of the organization, especially in the sponsorship of the poor and needy orphans.
The membership of the DPI will make it imperative on IIROSA and other NGOs to publish information about the UN in a manner that will promote awareness about the world body and its activities regarding peace, security, economy, social development, human rights and international law.
The organization will also publicize events being celebrated by the UN in order to draw the attention of the world towards the causes facing humanity.
