The body of an Indian worker believed murdered by a compatriot was found in a residential complex in Batha city center on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Shasthitharan from the south Indian state of Kerala, was allegedly murdered by his friend Sunil, who also hails from the same state. According to sources, both were living in the same building in different apartments.
The homicide was reported to have taken place in the early hours of morning, when the killer had gone into the victim's room while he was fast asleep and stabbed him several times with a kitchen knife. Police arrested Sunil hours after the incident.
The victim was married and his wife Saumini lives in Kerala. Shasthitharan, who had been living in the Kingdom since 1985, had returned to Riyadh only 45 days ago following his annual vacation.
According to a friend of the victim, Sunil has confessed to the murder. However, police in Deerah are currently following investigation leads to find out if any more people were involved in the murder. The killer’s motive is not known.
A teacher, who works for an international school in the capital, told Arab News yesterday that there was a huge traffic jam near the Kerala market in Batha due to the incident.
“We all thought that it was a road accident that had caused the traffic congestion. When I came home after school, someone told me a murder had taken place there,” she added.
