Chief of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities Prince Sultan bin Salman has praised the attention paid by Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar to the province’s tourism sector and related services and architectural heritage and monuments.
He also praised Qassim’s tourism officials, businessmen and citizens for supporting such initiatives and urban heritage schemes.
Prince Sultan added it reflects rising awareness among people in the area of the value of urban heritage sites and the importance of conservation.
Prince Sultan cited the excellence of Qassim’s tourism with the province winning five awards for excellence in tourism this year on the sidelines of the Saudi Travel and Tourism Investment forum.
He said his visit to the region comes after the Council of Ministers’ approval for the national strategy for handicrafts.
He stressed the need for attention in the handicrafts sector and described it as one of the important sectors that will experience significant growth and contribute to the national economy.
Prince Sultan bin Salman expressed appreciation to Princess Noura bint Mohammed of the Women Cooperative Association (Herfah) in Qassim on her organization’s efforts to help implement this campaign. The prince pointed out that rehabilitation projects and development of architectural heritage sites will be one of the most important tourist priorities in Qassim, given its importance for citizens economically and culturally.
The SCTA is working with a number of government agencies, particularly the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, to redevelop heritage sites and turn them into a productive economic sector.
Under Prince Sultan’s leadership, the SCTA has embarked on an ambitious program to preserve the Kingdom’s heritage. A number of projects has been launched to protect places of historic importance in various parts of the country.
