‘Herbal doctor’ arrested in Makkah for selling unsafe medicinal ‘salve’

The Herbal Doctor’s Committee at the Department of Environmental Health in Makkah arrested a retired government employee on suspicion of preparing a herbal remedy.
The retired man claimed the “salve,” which he called “Al-Janadriyah balm” treats chronic diseases such as arthritis, joints and nerves diseases and other organic diseases. He distributed it to selling points, including herbal shops.
The committee also closed during the last month three herbal shops, one in Al-Jmom area north of Makkah for the preparation and composition of a number of herbal mixtures with harmful effects that it sold to citizens and residents as herbal medicines that prevent or treat a number of illnesses.
“This citizen had been previously arrested 13 years before because he prepared unsafe herbal remedies and sold them to patients as a highly effective medicine, using selling techniques that motivated people to buy his products, pledges has been taken by him at the time, in addition to seizing all the herbal products manufactured by him,” Fahd Asiri, head of Herbal Doctor’s Committee told Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper.
He added, “The spread of this product was recently observed, therefore we have examined it and found various fallacies of the herbal composition, following that we monitored the selling points of this product, and we finally found it at herbal shop in the Holy City of Makkah, thus we had arrested the shop owner who after questioning admitted that a citizen is providing him with it regularly and on demand.”
The shop owner helped the Committee in arresting the citizen by arranging a delivery to his shop where he was arrested red-handed.
The chairman of the Herbal Doctor's Committee pointed out that the citizen had confirmed during the investigation that he made this product and other products through inspiration, and deep thinking, and he didn’t base it on any medical expertise in the field of herbal compositions, so that just proves that the mixtures of herbal products are flawed and dangerous for the health of its users.
