Twelve Haj pilgrims successfully underwent open-heart surgeries during this year’s pilgrimage, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday. The operations were performed at the King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) in Makkah. The patients were among the pilgrims from various countries.
Dr. Adil Tash, head of the Cardiology Center at KAMC, said the oldest patient was a 91-year-old pilgrim and the youngest a 16-year-old girl.
The Health Ministry did not reveal the identity or their nationalities.
Commenting on the conditions of patients who underwent open-heart surgeries, he said all of them are in good and stable condition. Some had already been shifted from intensive care units to general wards.
Tash said arrangements would be made for recovered patients to be escorted in a medical convoy to Mount Arafat on Arafat Day to complete their Haj.
