RIYADH: Riyadh Gov. Prince Sattam presided over the closing ceremony of the seventh Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Prize for Memorization of the Prophet’s Hadiths.
Prince Saud bin Naif, adviser to Prince Naif and deputy chairman of the prize, addressed the event and said the contest demonstrates Prince Naif’s care for his sons and daughters’ education and aimed to connect young men and women with Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) hadiths.
Deputy Minister of Education Khalid Al-Sabti said the prize is comprehensive in its nature as it honors adults and encourages youths and offers incentives and rewards.
Grand Mufti and Head of Higher Ulema Committee Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Asheikh said the prize aims to serve Islam and revive sunnah (traditions of the Prophet), adding such traditions are the best way to spread the call of Allah.
The prize’s Secretary-General Said Al-Harthi said the contest aimed to realize many goals including proper understanding of the sunnah, demonstration of tolerance in Islam and its care for decent life. The number of participants’ in the initial stages of the contest reached some 250,000 but those who qualified for the final stage were 546, out of which there were 210 winners, he said.
At the end of ceremony, Prince Sattam honored the winners and organizers of the contest.
