The Supreme Judiciary Council has received at least 3,171 complaints against various courts in the last 10 months, according to Al-Watan newspaper.
Nearly a third of the complaints were related to evidence presented in cases.
Makkah, Asir and Riyadh are the provinces with the largest number of complaints against courts while the lowest number of complaints came from Jazan province. Among the complaints, those related to public rights topped 27 percent, followed by civil status cases (17 percent), criminal cases (12 percent), and complaints related to commercial disputes and delay in enforcing court verdicts.
The general department for cases at the council carried out statistical and analytical studies about the major reasons for the rising tide of complaints against courts. According to the study, there are generally two types of complaints against courts.
First are grievances related to verdicts and appeals against them. The second concerns court procedures and violations or breaches in fulfilling courts’ responsibilities.
In a separate development, a senior official from the National Society for Human Rights has warned people against placing advertisements to sell their organs. Khaled Al-Fakheri, a member of the society and its legal consultant, said such actions were on a par with blackmail and human trafficking. He said such advertisements tried to take advantage of benevolent people.
