Adelaide go top of A-League

SYDNEY: Argentine forward Jeronimo Neumann overcame a missed penalty to keep Adelaide United unbeaten and leading Australia’s A-League with a 1-0 win over newcomers Western Sydney Wanderers in Adelaide on Friday.
Neumann, 26, who has played for River Plate and Estudiantes in his homeland, had his weak penalty attempt saved by Wanderers’ goalkeeper Ante Covic in the 66th minute.
But he scored the winner three minutes later when he swept home after a swift counter-attack with a neatly taken goal.
Japanese superstar Shinji Ono played for the full 90 minutes and received a yellow card for a studs-high tackle early in the second half.
The Wanderers, admitted to the A-League this season, have one point after two games and face Sydney FC at home next weekend in a much-anticipated first Sydney derby.
