In celebration of the International Coastal Clean Up, which coincided with the 82nd Saudi National Day, the Al-Rushaid Construction Company (ARCC), the subsidiary of EEI Corporation in Saudi Arabia particularly the Manifa Project, held its first ever seashore clean-up campaign alongside Manifa, a shoreline located around 230 km northeast of Dhahran.
This was in order to raise awareness on global environmental issues and preservation, the event took in Manifa Seashore on Sept. 23.
Dubbed as ARCC Earth Day, the Clean Up and Preservation Campaign attracted 95 percent of the current workforce of Manifa Project.
A team of volunteers consisting of ARCC employees surveyed the seashore and gathered up litter to help clean up the area.
"Through our activities, we are present in all parts of the world — on land and at sea, and from densely populated areas to desert regions. It is our responsibility to protect these different environments. Manifa clean-up campaigns show once again ARCC's commitment to preserving biodiversity," said Edwin T. Paragas, group manager-operation during the launch ceremony.
Jagadaseen Veallu, JGC HSSE manager, witnessed the simple initiative of ARCC management and staff and received an overwhelming response from Saudi Aramco, in his letter to ARCC he said "Congratulations on your recent campaign entitled, 'ARCC Earth Day — A Clean Up Drive and Preservation Campaign.' We would also like to take this opportunity to commend ARCC for taking the lead in keeping our Manifa project facilities neat and tidy. We recognize the amount of time, effort and resources that would have gone in to making this campaign a huge success."
The volunteers picked up around 27.90 cubic meter of trash, with the organizers playing an inspirational song "Heal the world, for a better place" by Michael Jackson during the drive.
