ALBAIK Tennis Challenge concludes with awards night

The Association of Tennis Clubs (ASTEC) in Jeddah held awarding ceremonies last week for the 4th ALBAIK Team Tennis Challenge at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Jeddah. It was a fitting occasion as all the champions in the different categories were awarded trophies for their hard earned victories.
Opening the affair was ASTEC Chairman Randy Martin who thanked all the sponsors chief of them ALBAIK Foods Company Inc. through PR Manager Bassam Al-Seyofi and Marketing Coordinator Mahmoud Al-Jaber who provided the main sponsorship for the tournament. Martin also thanked minor sponsors Deltaz Marketing (Racquet Shop) Tony Kassis, Maher Tebakhi and Amin Malik. Also cited was Al Raddadi Clinic which provided medical team to assist during the tournament.
Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah was the chief guest. He talked about tennis and the benefits of exercise and how it can help in the well-being of the participants and the Filipino expatriates in general.
Taking top honors in Category C was Reem Riviera Resort – Uricane with team captain Ronnie Organo and members Ricky Salazar, Gerardo Catalan, Ronald Mercado, Eusebio Castillo, Nelson Sta. Clara, Walid Batestil and Ramil Lorzano. The Category B2 champion was Red Sea Tennis Players (RSTP) led by team captain Edwin Potestad, and team members are: Vic Alvaran, Housam I-Basha, Ron Valdez, Ronnie Santos, August Talavera, Ramzi Ali, Wayne Cruz and Khalid Hisham. Another RSTP team won Category B1 composed of team captain Carmelo Nery with Benny Lazarte, Ruben Macalindong, Jojo Aran, Tony Mirasol, Randy Martin, Tonton Pana, Joel De Castro and Domelo Gesto.
For the mixed category, Lower Mixed class was bannered by National Commercial Bank (NCB) as team captain Sohail Hafez led among others Mohammad Hamawy, Marlon Regala, Roger Dolores, Manny Dela Cruz, Adan Republica, Rey Polintan, Romvon Daligdig and Jess Labanda for the championship. In the Middle Mixed, newcomer Sarimanok pocketed the crown with Nash Mangotara steering his team composed of Alama Macapaar, Al Sammy Macapaar, Al Manarandong, Mohd Noor Hadji Halil, Alimbsar Umpa, Ali Abbas, Lantong Patara and Faiz Bilao Amil. In the Higher Mixed class RSTP again reigned supreme with Francis Idjao (team captain), Randy Martin, Jovi Tagudin, Ricardo Ouano Jr., Abdelmeten Khoja, Vooch Maniri, Fred Masangkay and Carmelo Nery.
In the Ladies division, RATC Angels won Category C with Angie Romero, Jade Callueng-Morales, Jenny Nebrida, Jamila Panizales, Doris Navales, Angel Cananea and Thess Atienza. In the HMX category Reem Riviera Resort with Rhoda Bangit, Malou Argarin, Carmina Miles, Nympha Sakay, Dena Aquino, Joy Sarabia and Malou Sabio clinched the championship crown.
Special awards for Best Doubles went to Eusebio Castillo and Walid Batestil (category C), Cliff Castaneda and Rommel Divinagracia (category B2), Loy Escabusa and Fred Masangkay (category B1), Roel Manarang- Ramil Ramos (category LMX), Al Manarandong- Alama Macapaar (MMX category) and Loy Escabusa- Jun Miguel (HMX category). Abdelmeten Khoja was awarded the best in singles in the HMX category.
