A large number of women turned up for some very interesting sessions at the women’s conference on social entrepreneurship currently under way at the Sofitel Hotel on the Alkhobar Corniche.
The first day of the three-day forum, organized by the Ebda’a Exchange, kicked off to an inspiring start on Monday. The forum conducted in close collaboration with the Ministry of Labor brought together notable Saudi women from various fields to speak on topics ranging from business development and the role of media to the problems of unemployment so as to initiate a dialogue and give voice to diverse opinions on the same platform.
In the words of Nora Al-Shaban, president of Ebda’a Exchange, “The forum’s main objective is to change the way people think and to encourage the development of Saudi women in professional spaces so as to create a positive difference to society and the world at large.”
Featuring successful Saudi professionals and entrepreneurs from the media, academia, non-governmental organizations and corporations, the first leg of the conference proved to be inspirational for the many present.
“It is important for Saudi women to play a more active role in society and I hope to facilitate that through this forum by introducing the concepts of ‘entrepreneurship and creativity’ which are also in line with King Abdullah’s vision for Saudi Arabia,” said Shaban.
Moreover, the appearance of Princess Jawahir bint Naif who opened the conference and took a personal interest in its proceedings also highlighted the importance of Saudi women and their subsequent role in the future of the country.
Teeming with women of all ages and from all walks of life, the event was attended by a large number of people eager to hear what the speakers had to say.
“I’m looking forward to hearing their advice so I can work the same way in my professional life. I hope to come tomorrow too as they have really good speakers that I don’t want to miss,” said one such guest.
A number of young volunteers were also available to ensure that everything went smoothly and were more than happy to answer any questions that people might have.
“My experience has been great. The best part is that I’ve gained so much knowledge and information just volunteering that I hope to do it again next year,” Ghada, a recent graduate and an event volunteer, excitedly stated.
