Angel Darters clinched the championship trophy while Philip Agliam of John Derek Darters was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Kapamilya Air & Sea Cargo — 36th Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA) Inter-Commercial Dart Team Tournament at the Java City Billiard Hall in Batha area here.
Strong determination to stay No. 1 in the weekly tally and to bring home the supreme title guided Angel Darters in their march to the summit sweeping their two-game final rounds at 10-9 and 11-8 over Brand One Darteros.
Coach Warren Flores and team members Willy Mendez, Angelo Abenio, Orly Rollan, Dennis Santos, William Ugang, Edilberto Loyola, Eding Galera, Leonardo Vidallon, Noel Borromeo and Marvin Santos joined forces to end the first round scores at 3-5, 4-4 and 3-0 and the second round at 4-4, 4-4 and 3-0.
Earlier, Brand One Darteros beat JED Darters 10-9 to set up a final showdown with Angel Darters. Coach Peter Lachica led the assault and got the much needed support from Jun Lagrana, Garry Madinah, Vergel Labaron, Valentine Bajade, Prusian Dela Cruz, Jun Andres and Ariel Laxa to finish first runner-up.
JED Darters featured Edwin Canales, Adrian Tolentino, Abdulaziz (Ricky) Virgula, Catalino (Lino) Leonardo, Ener Tuazon, Eric Chan, Jose San Jose, Odon Cabatingan, Henry Faustino and Ronald Cawagas in their battle with Brand One Darteros to seal the second runner-up spot.
Prior to the start of the final games, Welfare Officer Anuar Ampang of POLO (Philippine Overseas Labor Office) Riyadh delivered inspirational message to the dart enthusiasts group. Sponsor representatives Eman Razo, Rannie Basanta and JP Aleta also attended the awards ceremony.
Trophies and gift items were handed over to individual and team awardees by Welfare Officer Ampang, Basanta, Razo and EDSA President Lino Leonardo. The awardees were Philip Agliam (John Derek Darters) – MVP, Renato Beduya (John Derek Darters) – Bulls Eye King, Ariel Laxa (Brand One Darteros) and William Ugang (Angel Darters) – Highest Out Darters, Adrian Tolentino (JED Darters) – Least Darts Award and Benedick Montanez, Fernando Castro (JED Darters) & Jun Lagrana (Brand One Darteros) – Most Ton 80 Awards. With Angel Darters, Brand One Darteros and JED Darters in the entourage were John Derek Darters of Anthony Villejo and Triple “J” Darters of Nerio Brosas completing the list as third and fourth runners-up
Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA) Riyadh Chapter is an organization established in 1989 among Filipino darters and accredited by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh with around 259 active members.
Kapamilya Air & Sea Cargo represented by Albert Cunanan (Manager) and Eman Razo is the major sponsor of this tournament. Rannie Basanta representing Mobily and JP Aleta of The Filipino Channel (TFC) supported the tournament. This season’s EDSA officials were Lino Leonardo, President; Abdulaziz “Ricky” Virgula, Vice President & CEO; Jess Dela Cruz, Secretary; Fred Borja. Treasurer; Bommie Biscocho, Assistant Treasurer; Francisco Duran, PRO; Emer Cortez & Angelo Abenio, Sergeant at-Arms; Ariel Laxa, Web Master; and Mohamed Gorembalem, Peter Lachica & Jun Andres, Tournament Directors.
