Shobra Palace set for spring visitors

The Shobra Palace Museum in Taif will receive visitors during the spring vacation in the morning (9 a.m. to 12 noon) and evening hours (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) on the instructions of Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).
Khaled bin Hamid Al-Qahra, director of Shobra Museum, said the palace, which was established more than 100 years ago, has become an important tourist destination in Taif. The museum has three sections: The period before Islam beginning from Stone Age to Jahiliya; Islamic heritage; and the Kingdom’s unification. It contains a large number of important artifacts. “Shobra Palace is one of the most important historical sites in the Kingdom,” said Al-Qahra, adding that it attracts a large number of tourists from within the Kingdom and abroad. The museum has a hall for paintings.
The SCTA has plans to convert palaces of King Abdul Aziz into cultural centers, which will display pictures and documents depicting the Kingdom’s unification. The move was part of a strategy adopted by the commission to revive the culture of historical civilizations and the national history of the Kingdom.
The SCTA will cooperate with all government and private institutions including the Ministry of Culture and Information to realize its project of turning palaces into cultural entities.
