The band of drummers
Oh, well! There is nothing worse than the curses divorcee couples exchange. Only they know the details of each other's lives, their intimate scandals through their long "living" together, and nobody can deny or prove they are true, nor anyone wants to interfere as well.
Syrian regime is a vicious partner, unlike the Jordanian one, which can be divorced in a friendly manner, or the Palestinian Authority for that matter. Khalid Meshaal, the Hamas' political chief and leader of the organization, is a divorcee of Syria. He has lived in the arms of Damascus for more than 10 years. But Assad's Damascus is scoffing at him as ungrateful because he criticized its crimes at the Ruling Party conference in Turkey.
Meshaal is already known as an ungrateful person. But this time he is right in his stance toward the Syrian regime, because of its brutal crimes that it has been committing for more than a year.
The outmost irony is that Syria is calling Meshaal, Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi and Turkey's Prime Minister Erdogan, the Trio "Drummers". All three were close allies of Damascus before the revolution. In politics, politicians agree, and disagree in general. The only difference is that a hideous regime like Assad's cannot stand any objection, in particular from someone who received favors from it or participated in an era of its history.
If anyone deserves the credit of Meshaal, it is the Jordanians who saved his life for free, when Mossad agents poisoned him to near death. At that time the king of Jordan asked President Bill Clinton to intervene and then Israel was forced to provide the antidote. Nonetheless, the attitude of Meshaal toward Jordan was unfriendly, as his office was attached with the Syrian Foreign Ministry, which in turn was very hostile to Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.
No doubt that the Syrian and the Iranian regimes took advantage of Meshaal and Hamas leaders and set them against the Palestinian Authority for years. Both of them provided support and shelter to them, not for the sake of God, and certainly not for the sake of the Palestinian cause. We know for sure how hard it is for the Palestinian fighters when they put themselves hostages under the mercy of Arab regimes. Meshaal knew exactly how bad the Syrian regime is, the extent of its crimes, and its claims pretending that it works in the name of the Palestinian resistance. All that was just a means to exploit the cause of a people whose land was stolen.
All the same, 2006 war with Hezbollah was only a charade, one of the Islamic nationalism charades that some participated in, in the context of a conflict that has nothing to do with Lebanese, or Palestinians' occupied territories.
Meshaal knew this truth, and we knew in turn that he had to walk the same path Damascus had set. But, it was more like riding on the back of a scorpion to cross the river. So finally, Assad’s scorpion bit him.
Assad’s television attacked him as well as his two companions, Mursi and Erdogan. It said: “By the way, since you are in very emotional and romantic state concerning what you call it the sufferings of the Syrian people, why this compassion didn’t show earlier for the people of Palestine? We shall not ask you about the grievances of the Palestinian people in 1948 occupied land, nor about Jerusalem which has been forgotten, or about West Bank ..you the trio bullshit. We shall ask you about the sufferings of our people in Gaza. How come you don’t speak out about the ongoing siege at the Egpytian front since your “Brothers” are holding the office there? Why do you agree, even cooperate, on striking freedom tunnels as you call them?
This hated speech smells anger against Meshaal and Mursi more than any opponent of Assad. This means that the ship is sinking already.
Assad lost his last Arab ally, only Hassan Nasrallah is left by his side, who mourns more about his “martyrs” who defended Assad regime and participated in the killing of the Syrian people. After Meshaal, there aren’t any allies left by Assad's side.
Speaking on behalf of Assad, the broadcaster said: “Now that you left resistance and chose authority, here are two pieces of news for you… one is that Syria is happy that the person who sold resistance has left. The other is that your status among Palestinians was linked with your choice as a defender, not your identity as a brotherhood. He who sleeps among dead people, will see nightmares.”
In fact, it is Assad himself who sees nightmares, not Meshaal and Mursi.
