Upon his arrival in the Kingdom to meet with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, British Prime Minister David Cameron visited Dar Al-Hekma (DAH) College yesterday.
The Prime Minister was welcomed at the college by the Dean, Dr. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi, members of the Board of Trustees, senior management, students and the faculty.
One of the highlights of Prime Minister Cameron’s visit to DAH College was the round table conference with selected students from the law program, and a few alumnae members.
The distinguished alumnae included Maryam Ali Ficociello, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) and Mounira Jamjoom, currently working as a senior research specialist at the Ideation Center, Booz & Company’s Middle East Think Tank.
“It brings us great pleasure and pride to host British Prime Minister David Cameron at our campus,” said Al-Qurashi. “The prime minister’s visit signifies his support for our college’s vision, of a bright future for our graduates in all fields, and our desire to raise the bar for higher education in the Kingdom. To achieve our long term objectives of excellence in higher education, we are greatly looking forward to expanding our partnerships with eminent educational institutions in the UK.”
Al-Qurashi further elaborated, that among DAH’s various academic programs, it had the distinction of offering one of the best legal programs for women in the Kingdom. A program, which has been developed in consultation with academics and professionals trained under the British legal system, and under the guidance of City University in London.
“My affinity with the UK began during my academic training at London School of Economics, and was later cemented by a unique work opportunity as a research fellow on the NHS IT Project,” said Ficociello.
Alumnae, Mounira Jamjoom, commented that she has strong respect for Dar Al-Hekma, for the brave strides it has undertaken in educating Saudi women, and the pivotal role it plays in empowering them to attain greater social well being.
Upon concluding the conference, Prime Minister Cameron commented on his visit, saying, “It was an inspirational session with a fascinating group of ladies, who will clearly do amazing things for the Kingdom and our world.”
The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for DAH’s achievements and accomplishments, and its role in educating and empowering women in Saudi Arabia and the region.
