The Jeddah police have launched a massive manhunt campaign during the past few days, which resulted in the netting of a number of wanted criminals, beggars, alcohol brewers and distributors, thieves, ladies' purse-snatchers and peddlers.
Acting police spokesman First Lt. Nawwaf Al-Bouq said yesterday the campaign, launched at various times throughout the day, covered a number of districts in Jeddah including Al-Sabeel, Anaikesh, Al-Masfah, Al-Kandara, Bani Malik, Quwaiza, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah.
The spokesman said the police acted on information it received from citizens about suspicious places and residents.
He revealed that 36 foreigners wanted in criminal cases, 1,688 overstayers, 570 beggars consisting of 204 children and 244 women, 74 peddlers, 275 car washers and a number of persons involved in practicing unlicensed trade were caught during the campaign.
"The beggars were spotted at a number of traffic lights and shopping malls. The police monitored their homes before busting them," he said.
The spokesman said various quantities of stolen objects and crime tools used confiscated.
Director of Jeddah police Gen. Ali Al-Saadi Al-Ghamdi said that the police would continue to pursue criminals, beggars and overstayers and asked citizens and expatriates not to hesitate to inform the police about any suspicious actions.
