I find it amazing what kind of information is sometimes coming forward in the letters. The writer Anees Lokhande (Jan. 18) claims, “I think the West is implying double standard on the issue of capital punishment.
When some influential and rich among them is killed, I am very much sure, they will award capital punishment to the killer.” According to Wikipedia, the only Western country with the death penalty is the US.
All other Western countries have abolished the death penalty. May be the writer could enlighten us which cases in which countries, having abolished the death penalty, were the reason for his claim. — Dieter Kozlowski, Jeddah
