Out of Britain — an exhibition of contemporary artworks by prominent British artists from the early 20th century will be hosted at Athr Gallery in collaboration with the British Council.
The touring exhibition of works is the cumulative result of the partnership between the British Council and the National Museum in Riyadh.
The first display of 52 valuable artworks from one of the largest national collections of British contemporary art hosted at the National Museum on April 23, will also be showcased at Scitech in Alkhobar on Saturday. Celebrating 100 years of contemporary landscape art, visitors can enjoy the opportunity to explore the personal interpretations of the British landscape by celebrated artists, in the medium of photography and painting. “The British Council which probably has the fifth largest collection of British art in the UK is always touring somewhere in the world. Landscape art seemed to be the most interesting way to create an artistic dialogue since we all live somewhere , take vacation somewhere — surrounded by landscape - whether on the coast, the countryside or in the city”, said Sean Williams, curator and Head of Art Services at the British Council.
“The artists we have brought to Jeddah are looking at the natural landscape in the English country-side, whereas in Alkhobar, the theme of the artworks will be more urban,” he added. The opening night of the Out of Britain exhibition in Jeddah at Athr Gallery is on Saturday, 8.30 p.m. onward.
