A public prosecutor accused alleged members of the so-called “88” terror cell of plotting to blow up a consulate in the Kingdom, a US military base in a Gulf country and an oil facility in Jeddah.
The public prosecutor made the charges while reading out the crime sheet against the defendants at the special criminal court trying detainees in terror related cases on Monday.
The charges included setting up camps for terror training, and forgery of official documents.
Another charge was that a cell member forged currency worth SR 178,800.
Other charges included arranging meetings with advocates of extremist ideologies, supporting Al-Qaeda leaders Osama Bin Laden, Ayman Al-Zawahri and Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, financing terror operations, using private vehicles to transport and hide terrorists besides lending ID cards to terrorists.
Another suspect is alleged to have supplied information about American installations in Jazan province with the aim of bombing the installations using two cars loaded with explosives.
Another charge against the defendants was making plans to attack a refinery in Jeddah.
