Clear the way for the rest of us (Part 2)
By the end of the 19th century, a major development appeared in the United States that started to hurdle the civilization of the old continent in some sort of race in many fields, especially in education and voluntary services.
As a result, many large universities came to existence by the efforts of individuals and private charity organizations, which started growing in the lands of the new continent turning it into a fast-rhythm, elastic and fast-moving.
Meanwhile, a new science emerged establishing experimental universities and colleges. Hence, consultative offices were inaugurated to help volunteers build universities, institutes, and colleges.
This fever surpassed the gold fever which erupted in California in the beginning of the 18th century, and actively stormed churches, factories, companies, and new ethnic groups.
The powerful American nation went beyond the lofty nations of Europe, the old continent. Then, they encompassed the Atlantic Ocean to cover all the European nations, then, went beyond the Pacific to Japan. And whenever this voluntary initiative reached any nation, it brings about that substantial move ahead as it draws a straight line toward the solutions; solutions that raise the educational awareness, and fight the social disease, especially poverty.
We have some minor experiences which lead to major results, that equal, if not exceed, that of organized institutions.
We have charitable feminine groups charged with the initiative spirit who created waves of change in society, with cities, quarters stricken by poverty, illiteracy, and perversion for decades.
They stretched their initiative to put an end to their problems, and make a straight way toward solutions. And more of these groups are on the way!
We have Al-Khubar’s Boys and Girls — a youth assembly who aimed at undertaking maintenance and cleaning the city public utilities, and raising the social and health awareness. They scored a stunning success in a short time. Their last campaign was for blood donation, which was creative and fruitful in every sense.
Now, we have another committee called Dammam’s Boys and Girls, also in Riyadh, Qatif, and Jeddah. We hope similar committees will be established in each city and town in the Kingdom, to raise the voluntary spirit, and to link the youths to loving their cities by serving them, and employing all their energies in useful deeds. But is the road paved? We ought to do it.
Oh lovers of this country, this is actually what we need. Oh people who like to find solutions, we call upon those who have the authority: Please clear the way for them.
