Do you believe that bread, rice, fruit and vegetables, meat or fish, cheese, eggs etc. are the only things that can be called “food”? As far as your physical body is concerned, it is certainly so. But there is another kind of stuff that can be considered as such because it also provides “nourishment,” not to your body but to your spirit, to the deeper part of yourself. Let us see.
How aware are you of your true nature? You have learned to consider yourself as God’s creation — which you actually are — but do you really understand the meaning of these words? It is not as easy as it may seem to actually recognize yourself as a precious creature and behave consequently. If you do, a great responsibility falls upon your shoulders and this may be the reason why you unconsciously tend to avoid full awareness. The moment you are totally convinced of such reality, in fact, your behavior dramatically changes.
As long as you believe that you are a being who cannot resist temptation, who does wrong and asks for forgiveness over and over again, everything remains on an “easier,” completely human level. A proverb says that “the flesh is weak” and it is certainly true. Nevertheless you are not made of flesh alone. This is just the means you need to act upon the physical plane, a “wrapping” that has no will and that is therefore incapable of deciding on how to behave.
It is the mind — the seat of your will — that makes choices. The mind, though, can be easily distracted by external solicitations and conditioning of different kinds. If you feed your mind with images of riches and wealth by reading books and magazines or watching films that praise such concept, no wonder if you feel particularly attracted by materialistic experiences. If, on the other hand, you rather like to indulge in watching films or reading stories related to violent actions, you program your mind to follow tough, rude, disorderly behavior.
You should therefore be very careful about the mental “food” with which you feed your mind, because it will later manifest in actual deeds in your daily life. This topic has been discussed at length, i.e. if watching a certain type of movies, or playing certain games, has a significant influence on people’s behavior, especially youngsters’. Some say yes, others (probably the majority, unfortunately) say no. Nevertheless, it sounds rather logical to believe that any kind of solicitations one receives, either through their eyes or ears or any other means, has an effect on their mind. You might believe it doesn’t. You may affirm that “you” are immune, but you are not. No one is. Any of your senses that repeatedly falls under the influence of outside stimuli, cannot remain immune.
Once you choose not to be tempted by negative behaviors (and you believe you are capable of doing so), you shall see how easy and uplifting it is to select — as subjects of your readings, conversations or visual images — those that mainly deal with peace, love, understanding, tolerance, cooperation and friendship.
Your true self is hidden behind a veil of “ignorance,” and I am using this word in a non-negative way. I am not referring here to being uneducated or uninformed. I am using it as a synonym for “unawareness.” When you are not aware, when you do not realize that harm is being done, you are like the person who, having a certain nerve numbed, does not feel pain if they are hit, burned or stung in that area. But the physical result will become soon visible on their body.
Time has come for you to lift the dark veil that dims the true nature of who you are — a beautiful part of Creation. Once you fully understand the importance of this perception, you shall also realize that most of your interests have spontaneously changed. What used to attract you yesterday has no more charm today. You will no longer enjoy scenes of violence, dirty or gruesome stories, idle and often immoral gossip. If you happen to hear them once in a while, you might just smile and … change the channel or flip the magazine page. Even some of your old friends might quietly disappear from your horizon and be replaced by others who are closer to your new way of thinking, i.e. to your new way of “being.”
