The annual Visual Communications Exhibition kicked off at Dar Al-Hekma (DAR) College on a two-day basis last week, under the theme “Twenty Two: The Manifesto”, showcasing the works of 22 graduating students.
The exhibition was held under the patronage of Dr. AbdulAziz Al-Khudairy, the deputy governor of Makkah region.
“Over the last four years each one of our students has developed her own visual language and style,” said Cordula Peters, program director of visual communications at DAH. “They have also proven their success in collaborative work and their readiness to join the ranks of professional graphic designers.”
The senior exhibition feted the individual achievements of each of the 22 graduating graphic design students, as well as their group effort.
“Having an exhibition such as this upon graduating helps us put together what we studied to represent ourselves as graphic designers,” said Farah Al-Tabbaa, one of the graduating graphic design students.
Tabbaa mentioned that she expects to continue her future pitch to strategic planning. “It is part of what we studied and just an expansion in the graphic design field.”
“This graphic design exhibition is very useful because it helps us know how to present our work and ourselves to clients,” said Hibatullah Al-Mouselly, another graduating student.
Al-Mouselly displayed a packaging project for different flavored chocolates, inspired by contemporary Islamic designs.
“The exhibition is very important in launching our careers, as a lot of students get hired as a consequence of showcasing their projects. This provides us with a great chance to meet with several graph design companies and is an unrivaled networking opportunity, which helps us build a wide network for future employment opportunities. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to DAH’s staff and administration for being very supportive and providing us with great opportunities. I’m blessed that I got accepted in this college,” added Al-Mouselly.
Additionally, the graduates produced an exclusive and outstanding manifesto that represents their beliefs and collective goals in pursuing uniqueness, inspiration, and success in their careers as graphic designers.
Dr. Suhair Al-Qurashi, dean of the college, praised the graduating students’ collective efforts and professionalism, adding that their hard work has enabled them to land employment contracts even before graduating.
“This senior-year portfolio is a byproduct of years of commitment and dedication,” said Al-Qurashi. “As Dar Al-Hekma, we stand true to our ability to remain academic leaders in the field of design, instilling excellence and enthusiasm in our young designers, and proudly delivering promises to our graduates’ employers.”
“Being able to show off our graphic design talents upon graduating gives us a chance not only to display what we have learnt throughout the years in college but also allows us to capture the attention of companies willing to hire us,” said Hala R. Husseini, a graphic design student. “This is a big milestone in our lives.”
Ewaan Global Residential Company sponsored the 2012-2013 Visual Communication Exhibition and commended DAH’s students for their level of creatively and novelty.
