JEDDAH: One hundred and five Bangladeshi pilgrims died during Haj. Of them. 94 were men and 11 women, according to Mohammed Asad uz Zaman, Bangladesh’s Haj consul in Jeddah.
Zaman said the Bangladesh Haj Mission’s medical team provided care for 48,634 pilgrims and referred another 211 to local Saudi hospitals for medical attention. He also said that dedicated staff was deployed to take care of pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah.
Bangladesh is the third largest Muslim nation in the world and has sent 112,568 pilgrims to perform Haj this year. The Bangladesh Haj Mission in Makkah is one of the best equipped and organized missions. It maintains a state-of-the-art IT system that tracks and updates the pilgrims' movements and keeps their families informed back home.
The number of Bangladeshi pilgrims who performed Haj this season with government-managed missions was 2,965. The vast majority of pilgrims preferred to avail themselves of the services of private tour operators.
Bangladeshi Haj pilgrims are provided with 10 liters of holy Zamzam water on their departure. In order to avoid a luggage hassle at Jeddah airport, the national flag carrier, Biman, transported the requested quantity of Zamzam water aboard its empty flights.
