This refers to the report “Poor residents forced to continue living in dilapidated buildings” (Feb. 24). It is unfortunate that people are forced to live in dilapidated buildings, risking their lives. I think, life is more important than money and for saving money, one should not put his life on the line.
I urge the authorities to forcefully evict the residents of these buildings in order to save precious lives. Also, the government authorities have pointed out that there are 1,000 buildings in the city whose structures are weak and they cannot withstand torrential rains or even slight vibration in the earth due to earthquake.
As a matter of fact, 1,000 is not a small figure and in case of a mishap, one can imagine how much damage it can cause to human lives. Therefore, I appeal to the authorities to raze these weak buildings and if residents are poor they should be provided with some fund so that they may move to some safer buildings. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
