To mark the end to a successful 2011-2012 season, the Dirab Ladies Group held a fun tournament and end of season awards ceremony last week at the Dirab Golf & Country Club on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Makarim Riyadh Hotel sponsored the two-ball Texas Scramble format competition that Ann Quintino and Monika Schiffer won with 66 from a gross score of 79 and 13 handicap.
Second place went to Caroline Wright and Susan Tessier who compiled 68 (80-12), while the tandem of Georgia Coughlin and Kazuko Nagaya clinched third position on 70 (80-10).
Coughlin and May Biswas claimed the awards for nearest to the pin and longest drive. Ann Quintino was the Best Dressed Player awardee.
The eclectic tournament winners were Fauzia Shamim, Quintino and Carolin Wright in Omega Group, Beta Group and Alpha Group in that order.
Dressed in colorful costumes members of the group captained by Denise Holding enjoyed a day out on the course. Capping the affair was the annual awards held at the clubhouse to honor the season winners.
Sile McIlroy was the winner of the Sportswoman of the Year award through a poll among the group members, according to Holding. Coughlin was the hands down winner of the Lowest Gross of the Year accolade, while Schiffer romped off with the Lowest Net of the Year award.
Also, the group presented special prizes for members set to leave the Kingdom for good namely Coughlin, Kazuko Nagaya and Myongoak Hwangbo.
In addition to the fun tournament prizes Makarim Riyadh Hotel whose sponsorship was facilitated by GM Yahya Al-Sayegh also donated raffle draw dinner vouchers which Schiffer and Regina Jung won.
Ibrahim H. Balaha, resident manager, and Abdul Kareem Almakadi, sales executive, represented Makarim Riyadh at the awards ceremony in which Holding thanked the sponsors, DGCC and all the Dirab Ladies for supporting the tournaments and helping in their success.
The new season starts in October after a summer break.
